He has a solid foundation in both traditional Chinese and Western medicine. While working at the Beijing Gu Lou Chinese Medicine Hospital, Dr. Yuan was the student of one of the best Chinese medicine masters in China, Prof. Junyu Wu. Under his guidance, Dr. Yuan deeply analyzed various traditional Chinese medicine literatures, including <Emperor´s Canon of Internal Medicine>, <Treatise on Exogenus Febrile Diseases>,<The Golden Chamber>,<Epidemic Febrile Diseases> and < A Complete Book of Acupuncture>, as well as other Western medical studies, and thrived in putting theories into practice. Dr. Yuan has a sound mastery of herbal recipes, acupuncture and tuina, and upon consultation, he adroitly his knowledge based on the patients´ needs to achieve the best results.
One of his early thesis, <72 Cases of Treating Apoplexy in Stages>, described treating apoplexy with herbs, acupuncture and tuina comprehensively and in stages, and greatly increased the success rate of treating the disease in the hospital. Besides mastering various disciplines such as internal medicine, gynecology and male diseases, Dr. Yuan also provided leadership in the hospital for treating patients under intensive care using Chinese medicine and acupuncture and led research work. Combining knowledge gained from the University, personal family heritage, and experience from his teacher Prof. Wu in one self, Dr. Yuan has a distinct approach for treating many hard-to-cure diseases. His theses,<288 Cases of Treating Acute Fever using Chinese Herbal Medicine>, and <44 Cases of Treating Acute Cardio-vascular Diseases> were separately delivered in the Nationwide Chinese Medicine Conference. He also participated in the editing of the book <Contemporary Chinese Internal Medicine> and the writing of <Comprehensive Acupuncture>.
